Banjo. Picks or fingers?

I have used finger picks from the beginning. They give that ping to the strings. Best for volume and authentic banjo. I have stated in the last few years to use fingers as I explore the sonic possibilities of the banjo. It gives a softer sound. Picks first then explore fingers or even thumb pick /fingers thumb/ finger picks.
